Food Focus: Strawberries

I have been obsessed with the strawberries we've been getting
from the farmers' market this spring.  Fresh and local strawberries taste like candy and are red and juicy throughout.  This amazingly delicious fruit is also rich in phytonutrients and are potent antioxidants.  They only have about 43 calories per cup, so dig in!

Refreshing Strawberry Smoothie

Now that the weather is warmer, I've switched up my breakfast routine.  Lately I'm enjoying smoothies packed with strawberries, flax oil, ground flax seeds, and almond butter. You can mix and match ingredients and create your favorite combination.

Smoothie Recipe
1 cup strawberries (or other berry)
1 cup water
1 TBS flax oil
2 TBS ground flax seeds
1 TBS almond butter

Combine all ingredients in blender or food processor and enjoy!
